What is K53



K53 is the file reference number assigned to the defensive driving methods developed in the 1980s, which became part of the official driver's license test


Getting Started



In order to take the road with a driving instructor for lessons, you first need to pass your Learner's License. Once you have your Learner's License, You may only drive on public roads when accompanied by a driver holding a valid Driving Licence for the same category of vehicle as your valid Learner's Licence. This Driver must sit nect to you or, if that is not possible, behind you at all times.

  • You may carry passengers provided they are not paying a fare
  • A learner motocycle driver may not carry a passenger
  • Your Learner's licence is valid for 24 Months

  • About Your Learner's Test



    The Learner's License test consist of multiple choice questions.In order to be prepared, you will need to know the following:

  • All the rules of the road
  • The basic of defensive driving
  • Road traffic signs, traffic signals and road markings
  • Vehicle controls

  • Age requirements for a learner's License

  • Motocyle 125cc or less (Without a sidecar) | 16 Years of Age
  • Light motor vehicles not exceeding 3500kg | 17 Years of age
  • All other vehichles and motorcycles | 18 Years of Age

  • Vehicle categories:Vehicles are categorised according to the following codes:

  • Light motor vehicles - Code B
  • Heavy Motor vehicles - Code C1, C, EC1 and EC
  • Light Motor vehicles combinations (horse and trailer) - Code EB
  • Motorcycles - Code A1 (up to 125cc) and Code A (over 12cc)
